problem
The foundational challenge addressed by this project was the pervasive maternal isolation experienced by women during the pre- and post-pregnancy periods. This critical life stage often leads to emotional disconnection, as new and expectant mothers struggle to find a safe, relatable community to share personal experiences of motherhood. Furthermore, daily anxieties, such as ensuring the nutritional safety of their children, lacked dedicated, convenient digital support, resulting in a fractured support system for an already vulnerable population.
solution
MomElsa was designed as a dedicated digital sanctuary to combat this isolation by creating a social media platform focused on meaningful, intimate connections. The UI/UX solution prioritizes features like private chat, community creation, and activity posting to drive active engagement and combat loneliness. Crucially, the platform integrates a practical utility, a core food scan tool, allowing moms to instantly check product barcodes for ingredient safety while shopping, thereby merging emotional support with essential daily functional needs within a single, trusted application.
The project began with a client who saw a critical gap in support: the profound isolation of motherhood. New and expectant mothers often feel disconnected from their former social circles and lack an immediate, safe community to share the unique challenges and triumphs of pregnancy and postpartum life. My brief was clear: design a digital sanctuary, a platform that actively combats loneliness by fostering genuine, local, and meaningful connections.

The Concept
The core concept evolved into MomElsa, a social media platform centered not on broadcast, but on intimate community and utility. We needed a system that facilitated private, deep conversations over surface-level interactions. We identified two key user needs: emotional support (finding peers) and practical support (managing the baby's life). This led to the dual focus: creating spaces for secure, chat-based connections and integrating a highly specific, everyday tool that simplifies a primary source of maternal anxiety: nutrition and shopping.
The Concept
As the UI/UX Designer, I built the solution around these pillars. The interface uses a calming, high-contrast palette of deep teal and cream to provide a safe, trustworthy visual experience. Key design elements included:
Meaningful Connections: Establishing dedicated features like private chat and local activity organization to move users past passive scrolling and toward active participation.
The Food Scan Feature: To address practical needs, I integrated a core utility: a rapid, integrated food scan tool. This allows busy moms to quickly scan product barcodes while shopping to ensure ingredients meet specific dietary or allergy needs for their children, turning a mundane task into a stress-free moment.
Intuitive Hierarchy: The information architecture prioritizes a clean, readable feed focused on post creation and community updates, ensuring the app feels supportive rather than overwhelming.
The Results
The design successfully delivered high-fidelity mockups that met both the emotional and functional requirements. MomElsa provides a seamless experience, positioning it as more than just a social network; it is a trusted daily tool and a vital support system. The final deliverables included a full UI/UX flow, high-fidelity mockups (as shown), and the visual identity (logo and design system), laying the foundation for development and future growth into a leader in specialized maternal health tech.
